About Us

Searle Street Medical Centre is an extension of Smith Street Medical Centre in Charlestown.

Smith Street Medical Centre has been operating for over 75 years and is still owned and staffed by independent Newcastle GP’s. (Smith Street Medical Centre is not part of any larger corporation). We are committed to individual patient care and providing quality medical services to the community. We provide a wide range of individual, family and community services. Our GP’s have a wide range of experience and interests, from conception through to aged care – we can help. Our GP’s are good listeners and they are well connected to the broader Newcastle Medical Community of Hospitals and Specialist Doctors. Searle Street Medical Centre was needed as we out grew our premises in Charlestown and rather than completely relocate, we decided to look for extra space in another location. Returning to Kotara seemed like the right move for our Practice. In the 1970’s Smith Street Medical Centre had a satellite Practice in Joslin Street, Kotara.

History

This is the site of the current surgery building located on the corner of Smith and Smart Streets, Charlestown. The house was purchased and demolished to make way for the purpose built medical centre. The practice has grown considerably over the years and continues proudly to take care of the health of several generations of families.
